Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his first trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an improved service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
